Abstract: Objective: To investigate the distribution of Chinese medicine constitution types of women during perimenopausal period in Guangzhou,so as to provide a theoretical basis of recuperation of Chinese medicine constitutions for women during perimenopausal period. Methods : According to modified Kupperman scoring standard , a total of 1 225 cases of women during menopausal period were enrolled, covering 490 cases of menopausal syndrome(the syndrome group) and 735 cases of non- menopausal syndrome(the non- syndrome group). Chinese medicine constitutions of all cases were investigated through Constitution in Chinese Medicine Questionnaire, and the related statistical analysis was carried out. Results:The moderate constitution which dominantly appeared in the non-syndrome group accounted for 73.6%. In the syndrome group, the biased constitutions which dominantly appeared accounted for 61.1%,among which the composite constitutions accounted for 52.7%,and the composite constitutions with four or more types of constitutions accounted for 60.1% . Yang deficiency composite constitution had the largest proportion of composite constitutions in the two groups. Simple biased constitutions of the syndrome group mainly included yang deficiency, special intrinsic constitution, and yin deficiency; composite constitutions of the syndrome group mainly included the same constitutions above. In the nonsyndrome group, simple biased constitutions were dominated by yang deficiency, yin deficiency, and blood stasis. In the non- syndrome group, composite constitutions were dominated by yang deficiency constitution, dampness- heat constitution, and yin deficiency. Conclusion: Patients with menopausal syndrome are mainly of composite constitutions. There are some differences between menopausal syndrome and non- menopausal syndrome regarding types of composite constitutions, but the main composite constitution of the two syndromes is yang deficiency composite constitution. Special intrinsic composite constitution and yin deficiency composite constitution are common composite constitutions of menopausal syndrome.
