Abstract: Objective: To observe the effect of the therapy of Dahuang Fuzi Tang combined with conventional western medicine on patients with severe sepsis and its influence on gastrointestinal function. Methods: Seventy patients with severe sepsis were selected and divided into the control group and the observation group according to the random number table method,with 35 cases in each group. The control group was treated with conventional western medicine,and the observation group was additionally treated with Dahuang Fuzi Tang based on the treatment of the control group. The treatment lasted for seven days. The clinical effects in the two groups were evaluated. The grading of Acute Gastrointestinal Injury(AGI),the scores of Acute Physiology And Chronic Health Evaluation(APACHE Ⅱ), the levels of inflammatory indicators and the incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. Results: The total effective rate was 91.43% in the observation group, and 77.14% in the control group,there being no significant difference between the two groups(P>0.05). After treatment,the grading of AGI in the observation group was better than that in the control group, the difference being significant(P<0.05). After treatment,the scores of gastrointestinal dysfunction and APACHEⅡ in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.05),and the above scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(P<0.05). After treatment,the levels of white blood cell count(WBC), high- sensitivity C- reactive protein(hs- CRP) and procalcitonin(PCT) in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.05), and the levels of WBC, hs-CRP and PCT in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups(P>0.05). Conclusion:The therapy of Dahuang Fuzi Tang combined with conventional western medicine can improve the clinical effect on severe sepsis, effectively alleviate gastrointestinal dysfunction, and reduce the body's inflammatory responses,without increasing adverse reactions.
