Objective：To observe the clinical effect of valaciclovir combined with fire needling，cupping and suspended moxibustion for herpes zoster in acute stage.Methods：Divided 120 cases of patients randomly into two groups，60 cases in each group.Both groups were given oral valaciclovir tablets and vitamin B1tablets.The observation group was additionally given fire needling， cupping and suspended moxibustion for treatment， while the control group additionally receivedthe treatment of pricking the blisters locally and wet dressing.Both groups continuously received treatment for ten days.After the course of treatment， observed the clinical effect， scores of visual analogue scale(VAS)and incidence of postherpetic neuralgia.Results：The total effective rate was 95.0%in the observation group and was 86.7%in the control group，and there was no significance in the difference(P＞0.05).After treatment of ten days and after one month having finished the course，VAS scores in two groups were decreased remarkably when compared with those before treatment，differences being significant(P＜0.01).Decrease of VAS scores in the observation group was more evident than that in the control group.The comparison of VAS scores between the two groups during the same period showed significance in differences(P＜0.01).After one month having finished the course，the ratio of incidence of postherpetic neuralgia in the observation group was lower than that in the control group，differences being significant(P＜ 0.05).Conclusion：The therapy of valaciclovir combined with fire needling，cupping and suspended moxibustion has a good effect in treating herpes zoster in acute stage，which is superior to simple western medicine treatment in analgesia during acute stage and prevention of postherpetic neuralgia.
