Abstract:Objective:To observe the effect of acupuncture and emotional nursing of Chinese medicine combined with western medicine on the mental symptoms of senile dementia. Methods:A total of 84 cases of patients with senile dementia were randomly divided into the control group and the observation group,42 cases in each group. Both groups were given oral administration of donepezil hydrochloride tablets and olanzapine tablets;the control group was given corresponding nursing measures;and the observation group was given acupuncture and emotional nursing of Chinese medicine. Both groups were treated for eight weeks. Before and after treatment, the scores of Neuropsychiatric Inventory- Nursing Home Version(NPINH), Barthel index(BI) and Mini-Mental State Examimation(MMSE) were evaluated. The clinical effect in the two groups was compared. Results:After treatment, the clinical effect in the observation group was better than that in the control group(P<0.05). The NPI-NH scores in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.01),and the scores of MMSE and BI were increased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.01). The NPI- NH score in the observation group was lower than that in the control group(P<0.01),and the scores of MMSE and BI were higher(P<0.01).Conclusion: Based on routine western medicine, the additional intervention of acupuncture combined with emotional nursing of Chinese medicine can effectively alleviate the mental symptoms and improve the cognitive ability and living ability of patients.
