Abstract：Objective：To observe the clinical effect of periodic therapy of sex hormones combined with Chinese herbal medicine of tonifying the kidney and regulating menstruation by stages for hypomenorrhea. Methods：A total of 130 cases of patients with hypomenorrhea were randomly divided into the control group and the observation group， 65 cases in each group. The control group was treated with periodic therapy of sex hormones， and the observation group was additionally treated with Chinese herbal medicine of tonifying the kidney and regulating menstruation according to menstrual cycle based on the treatment of the control group. Before and after treatment，the changes in menstrual amount，menstrual cycles and Chinese medicine syndrome scores in the two groups were observed，and the levels of follicle stimulating hormone(FSH)， luteinizing hormone(LH) and estrogen(E2) in serum in the two groups were detected. The total clinical effect in the two groups was counted. Results： The total effective rate was 95.4% in the observation group and 81.5% in the control group， the difference being significant(P＜0.05). After treatment， the menstrual amount in the two groups was increased when compared with that before treatment， and the menstrual duration was prolonged， differences being significant(P＜0.05)； the improvement of the above two indexes in the observation group was more significant than that in the control group(P＜ 0.05). After treatment， the Chinese medicine syndrome scores including dizziness， tinnitus， soreness and weakness of waist and knees and downbearing distention in lower abdomen in the two groups were significantly decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)；the scores in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group(P＜0.05). After treatment， the levels of FSH， LH and E2 in serum in the tow groups were significantly increased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)； the scores in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group(P＜0.05). Conclusion：Chinese herbal medicine of tonifying the kidney and regulating menstruation according to menstrual cycle combined with periodic therapy of sex hormones for hypomenorrhea can significantly improve menstrual amount，prolong menstrual cycles and improve levels of sex hormones in serum.
