Abstract：In clinic，there is no specific medicine for multiple sclerosis(MS)，and the treatment is mainly symptomatic. Its commonly used medicines include hormones，immunosuppressant，etc. If medicines are reduced or cut off，the disease is easy to recur. After long- term administration， there will be many adverse reactions. At present， the prevention and treatment of Chinese herbal medicine for MS has made some progress. In clinical treatment， the applied Chinese herbal compounds often involve the methods of activating blood， resolving phlegm， clearing heat， detoxifying， draining dampness， fortifying the spleen and soothing the liver， and the prescriptions and medicines of tonifying the kidney are indispensable. This paper summarized three kinds of compounds of tonifying the kidney for MS in clinic(namely tonify the kidney yin prescription， warming the kidney yang prescription and tonifying both yin and yang prescription) to discuss the mechanism of prescriptions and medicines of tonifying the kidney，and further illustrate the importance of tonifying the kidney for MS in syndrome differentiation and treatment of Chinese medicine.
