Abstract： Objective： To observe the mechanism of CUI Yuheng's Qufeng tang on cutaneous pruritus in patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis，and to provide a new approach for the treatment of the disease. Methods：A total of 120 cases of patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis with cutaneous pruritus who were admitted and treated in blood purification center of the department of nephropathy and rheumatism in our hospital were selected，and randomly divided into the CUI Yuheng's Qufeng tang group and the Wushe Qufeng tang group，60 cases in each group. Both groups were given routine western medicine treatment； the CUI Yuheng's Qufeng tang group was additionally given CUI Yuheng's Qufeng tang； the Wushe Qufeng tang group was additionally given Wushe Qufeng tang. The clinical effect was evaluated via the scores of Visual Analogue Scale(VAS)，Behavior Rating Scale(BRS)，the scores of emotion caused by pruritus and the degree of dry skin. The related experimental indexes in the peripheral blood，the contents of interleukin- 12(IL- 12) and the relative expression of IL-12 mRNA were detected. Results：After treatment，in the two groups，the scores of VAS，BRS，emotion caused by pruritus，as well as the degree of dryness were significantly decreased(P＜0.01)；the levels of Hb were increased (P＜0.05)， and the levels of PTH， Ca and P in the blood were decreased(P＜0.05)； the levels of the expression of IL- 12mRNA and IL-12 were significantly increased(P＜0.01). Compared with those in the Wushe Qufeng tang group，the scores of VAS，BRS，emotion caused by pruritus，as well as the degree of dryness in the CUI Yuheng's Qufeng tang group were lower(P＜0.05)，and the levels of the expression of IL-12mRNA and IL-12 were significantly increased(P＜0.01). There was a negative correlation between the scores of VAS，BRS，as well as emotion caused by pruritus and the contents of IL-12(P＜0.05). Conclusion： CUI Yuheng's Qufeng tang has antipruritic effect and significant curative effect in treating patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis with cutaneous pruritus. Its mechanism may be the improvement of ion balance and the up-regulation of the expression of IL-12 so as to mediate the immune function and inhibit proliferation of microorganism.
