Abstract： Objective： To observe the clinical effect of external application with Ruyi Jinhuang powder combined with microwave irradiation for phlebitis. Methods：A total of 95 cases of patients with phlebitis with blood heat stasis syndrome were randomly divided into the control group and the observation group， 46 and 49 cases in each group respectively. The control group was given microwave irradiation， and then the affected area was coated with proper amount of mucopolysaccharide polysulfate cream. The observation group was treated with external application with Ruyi Jinhuang powder combined with microwave irradiation. Both groups were given routine nursing measures and were treated for one week. Before and after treatment，the degree of pain of phlebitis was evaluated by Visual Analogue Scale(VAS)；the scores of symptoms and signs as well as the degree of phlebitis were evaluated. The nursing satisfaction was evaluated at discharge. Results： After treatment， the degree of phlebitis in the two groups was decreased when compared with that before treatment(P＜0.05)，and the degree in the observation group was lower than that in the control group(P＜0.05). The scores of VAS，symptoms and signs in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.01)，and the above scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(P＜0.05). At discharge， the nursing satisfaction in the observation group was higher than that in the control group(P＜0.05). Conclusion：The therapy of external application with Ruyi Jinhuang powder combined with microwave irradiation in treating phlebitis caused by infusion can significantly reduce the degree of inflammation and pain，and relieve symptoms，with satisfying clinical effect.
