Abstract：Objective：To observe the clinical effect of Fugui Gutong capsules for rheumatoid arthritis. Methods：A total of 124 patients with rheumatoid arthritis were randomly divided into the observation group and the control group，62 cases in each group. The control group was given conventional treatment， namely， methotrexate as the main medicine； the observation group was treated with Fugui Gutong capsules. The clinical effect in the two groups was compared，and changes in the levels of interleukin- 1(IL- 1)，interleukin- 6(IL- 6)，tumor necrosis factor- α(TNF- α)，erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and C-reactive protein(CRP) in serum before and after treatment were evaluated. Results：After treatment，the total effective rate was 64.51% in the control group and 87.10% in the observation group， the difference being significant(P＜0.05). There was no significant difference in the comparison of morning stiffness time， joint swelling and pain before treatment between the two groups(P＞0.05). After treatment，the clinical symptoms in the two groups were alleviated and improved when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)，and the clinical symptoms in the observation group were improved more significantly than those in the control group(P＜0.05). There was no significant difference in the comparison of the levels of ESR，CRP，IL-1，IL-6 and TNF-α between the two groups before treatment(P＞0.05). After treatment，the levels of inflammatory cytokines in the observation group were decreased more significantly when compared with those in the control group(P＜0.05). Three cases of adverse reactions occurred in the observation group and nine cases in the control group，there being no significant difference(P＞0.05). Conclusion：Fugui Gutong capsules has significant therapeutic effect in treating rheumatoid arthritis， which can further improve the clinical symptoms， reduce the inflammatory levels， and is conducive to the rehabilitation of patients.
