Abstract: Objective: To systematically evaluate the effect of Chinese medicine combined with chemotherapy on patients after surgery for breast cancer, and to provide theoretical basis for the Chinese medicine treatment of postoperative patients with breast cancer. Methods: Computerretrievals on randomized controlled trial(RCT), of comparing the clinical effect of Chinese medicine combined with chemotherapy with that of chemotherapy alone on patients after surgery for breast cancer, were comprehensively conducted from a variety of databases, such as China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), WANFANG Data, VIP Database for Chinese Technical Periodicals(VIP), China Biology Medicine disc(CBM), PubMed and The Cochrane Library, with retrieval time from January 1st,2009 to May 31st,2019. Enrolled literature was evaluated systematically. Results:A total of 13 RCTs were finally included, involving 1 053 patients after surgery for breast cancer. The number of cases of Chinese medicine combined with chemotherapy(the treatment group) and chemotherapy alone (the control group) was 526 cases and 527 cases respectively. According to meta-analysis result, the treatment group was superior to the control group in increasing the quality of postoperative life of patients,CD3 + cell count in peripheral blood, CD4 + cell count, and CD4 +/CD8 + ratio, as well as in reducing the incidence of leukopenia, thrombocytopenia and gastrointestinal side effect after chemotherapy;differences were significant(P<0.05). However, there was no significance in differences in the incidence of hemoglobin decline and CD8+ cell count in peripheral blood between the two groups(P>0.05). Conclusion:Chinese medicine combined with chemotherapy is superior to chemotherapy alone in improving the quality of life after the operation of breast cancer, alleviating toxic side effects of chemotherapy, and enhancing immune function.
