Clinical Study on Point Application with Chinese Herbal Medicine Combined with Qirong Runchang Oral Liquid for Senile Patients with Chronic Functional Constipation
Abstract: Objective: To observe the curative effect of point application with Chinese herbal medicine combined with Qirong Runchang oral liquid for senile patients with chronic functional constipation. Methods:A total of 120 cases of senile patients with chronic functional constipation of deficiency of both qi and yin type were randomly divided into the control group and the observation group, 60 cases in each group. Both groups were treated with Qirong Runchang oral liquid, and the observation group was additionally treated with point application with Chinese herbal medicine based on the treatment of the control group. Both groups were treated for three to four courses according to the condition,five days being one course. Both groups were given lifestyle modification guidance and psychological guidance. The scores of main symptoms of constipation and Patient Assessment of Constipation Quality of Life(PAC- QOL) were evaluated before and after treatment;the average times of weekly spontaneous complete bowel movement(SCBM) were counted; the clinical effect in the two groups was compared. Results:After treatment,the clinical effect in the observation group was better than that in the control group(P< 0.05). The scores of fecal character, difficulty of defecation, defecation time, distending sensation of incomplete defecation, defecation frequency and abdominal distension in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.01), and the above scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(P< 0.01). On the first and second week of treatment,the SCBM in the observation group were more than those in the control group(P<0.01). There was no significant difference being found in the comparison of SCBM on the third and fourth weeks between the two groups(P>0.05). The scores of physiology,social psychology,worry,satisfaction of PAC-QOL and the total scores in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.01),and the above scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(P>0.05). Conclusion: Point application with Chinese herbal medicine combined with Qirong Runchang oral liquid in treating senile FC patients can significantly relieve their symptoms of constipation,quickly increase defecation times and improve quality of life,with good clinical effect.
