Abstract:Objective:To observe the effect of thunder-fire moxibustion combined with routine therapy on hypertension of yang deficiency type in senile patients. Methods: The method of retrospective clinical study was applied to select the clinical data of 100 cases of senile patients with hypertension of yang deficiency type. According to whether or not use thunder-fire moxibustion as adjuvant treatment, the patients were divided into the thunder-fire moxibustion group and the basic treatment group,50 cases in each group. Both groups were given the oral administration of antihypertensive drugs as well as health and diet guidance, and the thunder- fire moxibustion group was additionally treated with thunder- fire moxibustion. Both groups were observed for seven days. The clinical effect in the two groups was compared. Before and after treatment, morning blood pressures were measured and Chinese medicine syndrome scores were evaluated. Results:After treatment for seven days, the obvious effective rate was 74.0% in the thunder- fire moxibustion group and 14.0% in the basic treatment group, the difference being significant(P<0.01). The total effective rate was 100% in the thunder- fire moxibustion group and 94.0% in the basic treatment group;there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of the total effective rates between the two groups(P>0.05). Systolic and diastolic blood pressures in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.05). Both systolic and diastolic blood pressures in the thunderfire moxibustion group were lower than those in the basic treatment group, differences being significant(P<0.05). The scores of six Chinese medicine syndromes including headache and dizziness, mental fatigue and lack of strength, fear of cold and cold limbs, loose stool, oppression in the chest and shortness of breath, and soreness and coldness in waist and knees as well as the total scores in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.05);the above scores in the thunder- fire moxibustion group were all lower than those in the basic treatment group(P<0.05). Conclusion: Thunder- fire moxibustion combined with routine therapy can effectively reduce the blood pressure levels of senile patients with hypertension of yang deficiency type, and improve their clinical symptoms as well as the clinical effect.
