Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of abdominal Tuina for senile patients with diabetic constipation . Methods: A total of 76 cases of senile patients with diabetic constipation were divided into the control group and the observation group according to the random number table method, 38 cases in each group. The control group was given routine treatment and nursing, and the observation group was additionally given abdominal Tuina therapy based on the treatment of the control group. The curative effect, the symptom scores of constipation, the first defecation time,Bristol fecal characters and the Patient Assessment of Constipation- Quality of Life Scale(PAC- QOL) were compared between the two groups. Results:The total effective rate was 92.11% in the observation group, higher than that of 76.32% in the control group, the difference being significant(P<0.05). Before treatment, there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of symptom scores of difficult defecation, fecal character, defecation time, straining sensation, defecation frequency and distending sensation between the two groups(P>0.05). After treatment, each symptom score of constipation in the two groups was decreased when compared with that before treatment, and each score in the observation group was lower than that in the control group, differences being significant(P<0.05). Rank sum test showed that after treatment, Bristol fecal character classification in the observation group was significantly better than that in the control group, the difference being significant(Z=- 2.314,P=0.021<0.05). The first defecation time in the observation group was significantly less than that in the control group, the difference being significant(P<0.05). Before treatment, there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of scores of physical discomfort, psychosocial discomfort, worry and anxiety and satisfaction between the two groups(P>0.05). After treatment, each score of quality of life in the two groups was decreased when compared with that before treatment, and each score in the observation group was lower than that in the control group, differences being significant(P<0.05). Conclusion: Abdominal Tuina therapy conduces to improving constipation symptoms of senile patients with diabetic constipation, and increasing their quality of life.
