Abstract：Objective：To observe the clinical effect of balance acupuncture combined with Chinese herbal fumigation for muscular hypertonia after stroke. Methods： A total of 80 cases of patients with muscular hypertonia after stroke were randomly divided into the observation group and the control group，40 cases in each group. The control group was treated with Chinese herbal fumigation， and the observation group was treated with balance acupuncture combined with Chinese herbal fumigation. The clinical effect， the sports ability， the self- care ability， the difference of electromyography and the incidence of adverse reactions in the two groups were compared. Results： The effective rate of clinical treatment was 92.50% in the observation group， higher than that of 75.00% in the control group(P＜0.05). After treatment， the improvement of muscular tension in the observation group was better than that in the control group(P＜0.05). Before treatment，there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of the scores of Fugl-Meyer Assessment(FMA) and Barthel index(BI) between the two groups(P＞0.05)；after treatment，the scores of FMA and BI in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment，and the scores in the observation group were higher than those in the control group(P＜0.05). Before treatment， there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of the electromyography in muscular tension and the electromyography in muscle strength between the two groups(P＞0.05)；after treatment， the electromyography in muscular tension in the two groups was decreased when compared with that before treatment， and the one in the observation group was lower than that in the control group(P＜0.05)； after treatment， the electromyography in muscle strength in the two groups was increased when compared with that before treatment，and the one in the observation group was higher than that in the control group(P＜0.05). There was no significant difference being found in the comparison of the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups(P＞0.05). Conclusion：The therapy of balance acupuncture combined with Chinese herbal fumigation for muscular hypertonia after stroke is helpful to enhance the sports ability and self- care ability of patients， relieve the increase of muscular tension and improve the levels of surface electromyography in muscular tension and muscle strength.
