Abstract： Objective： To observe the applicational effect of Buyang Huanwu tang on the elderly patients who had undergone joint replacement for intertrochanteric fracture at perioperative period. Methods：A total of 42 elderly patients with intertrochanteric fracture were divided into the control group and the treatment group according to the random number table method， 21 cases in each group. Both groups received joint replacement； the control group additionally implemented the surgical management of rapid rehabilitation，and the treatment group additionally received Buyang Huanwu tang based on the treatment of the control group. After surgery， the score of Visual Analogue Scale (VAS)， Harris Hip Function Score(Harris score)，incidence of complications，length of hospital stay and hospitalization costs were compared between the two groups. Results： Six hours， three days and seven days after surgery， the VAS scores in the two groups were significantly decreased when compared with those before surgery(P＜0.05). Three days and seven days after surgery，the VAS scores in the treatment group were significantly lower than those in the control group(P＜0.05). Seven days and thirty days after surgery，the Harris scores in the two groups were significantly increased when compared with those on the day after surgery (P＜0.05)，and the Harris score in the treatment group was significantly higher than that in the control group(P＜0.05). The complication rate was 9.52% in the treatment group and 19.05% in the control group，there being no significant difference (P＞0.05). The length of hospital stay in the treatment group was significantly shorter than that in the control group(P＜0.05). There was no significant difference in the hospitalization costs between the two groups(P＞0.05). Conclusion： Buyang Huanwu tang can accelerate the recovery of hip function， reduce pain， shorten hospital stay， and improve safety in the elderly patients who had undergone joint replacement for intertrochanteric fracture at perioperative period.
