Abstract： Objective： To observe the clinical effect of external application of Puhuang powder combined with routine medical measures on infusion phlebitis. Methods：A total of 104 patients with syndrome of heat toxin and stasis accumulation were randomly divided into the control group and the observation group， 52 cases in each group. The two groups were treated with wet hot compress of magnesium sulfate， MPS cream applied to the affected area， and routine nursing measures. The observation group was additionally treated with external application of Puhuang powder. Both groups were treated for five days. Before treatment and on the third and fifth days of treatment，the severity of pain was evaluated by Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) and the disappearance time of major symptoms such as pain，swelling and burning was recorded. The clinical effect was evaluated in the two groups. Results：After treatment，the clinical effect in the observation group was better than that in the control group(P＜0.05). On the third and fifth days of treatment，the VAS scores in both groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.01)，and the VAS scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group at two time points(P＜0.01). The pain， swelling and burning disappeared faster in the observation group than in the control group(P＜0.01). Conclusion：Based on the treatment of routine medical measures，the additional external application of Puhuang powder for infusion phlebitis， can significantly reduce the pain and other symptoms，shorten the course of disease，and has a good clinical effect.
