Abstract： Objective： To observe the effect of Xiere Tongchang patch on patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(AECOPD) complicated with constipation on the basis of routine medicine treatment and nursing. Methods： A total of 96 cases of patients with AECOPD complicated with constipation who were differentiated as heat accumulation type were randomly divided into the control group and the observation group，48 cases in each group. Both groups were treated with lactulose oral solution and bifidobacterium triple viable capsules and nursed with dietary guidance， abdominal massage and psychological counseling；the observation group was additionally given point application with Xiere Tongchang patch at Shenque point(CV 8) and Tianshu point(ST 25). Both groups were treated for two weeks. Before treatment and after two-week treatment respectively，the scores of constipation symptoms and respiratory tract symptoms and signs were evaluated. The disappearing time of constipation and the hospitalization time were recorded. When discharge， the nursing satisfaction of patients was assessed. Results： After treatment， the clinical effect in the observation group was better than that in the control group(P＜0.05). The scores of constipation symptoms and respiratory tract symptoms and signs in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.01)，and the above two scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(P＜0.01). In the observation group，the disappearing time of constipation was accelerated when compared with that in the control group， and the average hospitalization time was shortened，differences being significant(P＜0.01). The nursing satisfaction in the observation group was higher than that in the control group(P＜0.05). Conclusion： Based on routine medicine treatment and nursing， the additional intervention of Xiere Tongchang patch for patients with AECOPD complicated with constipation can significantly relieve constipation symptoms， shorten the course， improve the constipation and at the same time relieve the respiratory tract symptoms of patients，which is conducive to the control of the disease and can improve the satisfaction of patients with nursing care.
