Abstract：Objective：To observe the clinical effect of Shenqi Guizhi tang combined with insulin glargine for elderly type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods：A total of 68 cases of elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were divided into the study group and the control group according to the random number table method，34 cases in each group. Both groups were given strict diet control and proper exercise； the control group was given subcutaneous injection with insulin glargine， and the study group was additionally treated with Shenqi Guizhi tang based on the treatment of the control group. Both groups were treated for two months. The scores of Chinese medicine syndrom and levels of hemoglobin A1c(HbA1c)， fasting blood glucose(FBG)， postprandial 2- hour blood glucose(P2hBG) before and after treatment as well as the Chinese medicine syndrom effect in the two groups were compared. The adverse reactions in the two groups were observed. Results：After treatment， the Chinese medicine syndrome scores in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)， and the Chinese medicine syndrome score in the study group was lower than that in the control group(P＜0.05). The curative effect of Chinese medicine syndrome in the study group was significantly better than that in the control group(Z=3.105，P＜0.05). After treatment，the levels of HbA1c，FBG and P2hBG in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)，and the levels in the study group were lower than those in the control group(P＜0.05). During treatment，there was no adverse reactions occurring in the two groups. Conclusion：Shenqi Guizhi tang combined with insulin glargine for elderly type 2 diabetes mellitus can significantly improve the clinical symptoms and control the blood glucose levels，which is safe and reliable.
