Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of Chinese herbal decoction combined with eustachian tube insufflation via nasal endoscopy for children with secretory otitis media. Methods: A total of 82 cases of children with secretory otitis media were selected so as to conduct a retrospective analysis of medical records, and were divided into the observation group and the control group based on different treatment schemes. The control group was performed eustachian tube insufflation via nasal endoscopy, and the observation group was additionally given Chinese herbal decoction based on the treatment of the control group. In the reexamination one month after treatment, the curative effect was compared between the two groups. The incidence of adverse reactions during treatment was compared between the two groups. During the follow- up six months after treatment, the recurrence was compared between the two groups. Before treatment and after one- month treatment, changes in contents of platelet activating factor(PAF) and endothelin- 1(ET- 1) in ear effusion were compared between the two groups. Results:After treatment, the total effective rate was 87.18% in the control group and 97.67% in the observation group, the difference being significant(P<0.05). Compared with those in the same group before treatment, contents of PAF and ET- 1 in the two groups were decreased after treatment(P<0.05). Compared with those in the control group after treatment, contents of PAF and ET- 1 in the observation group were lower(P<0.05). There was no significant difference being found in the comparison of the total incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups(P>0.05). Compared with that in the control group, the recurrence rate in the observation group was lower(P<0.05). Conclusion:The therapy of Chinese herbal decoction combined with eustachian tube insufflation via nasal endoscopy has a good clinical effect in the treatment of children with secretory otitis media, which can effectively relieve their inflammatory responses, with low recurrence rate and good treatment safety.
