Abstract: Neurogenic bowel dysfunction after spinal cord injury can be divided into upper motor neurogenic bowel dysfunction and lower motor neurogenic bowel dysfunction according to the level of injury. The former is mainly manifested as constipation and has many effective treatment methods. The latter is characterized by constipation and fecal incontinence, and its clinical treatment is relatively complex,with limited intervention methods.Chinese medicine theory believes that spinal cord injury leads to damage to yang qi of governor vessel and disturbance ofmeridian qi,resulting in the failure to conduct and transmit of large intestines and thus abnormity of discharge,and that causes constipation. The nature of disease is deficiency in origin and excess in superficiality,and its common syndrome types are cold constipation and deficiency constipation.Wenpi tang,which comes from the Beiji Qianjin Yaofang,mainly treatsyang deficiency and cold accumulation syndrome,whose effect is to warm and tonify spleen yang,and attack cold accumulation by purgation. The application of this prescription for yang deficiency and constipation after upper motor neurogenic spinal cord injury can receive a good effect.
