Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of acupuncture combined with tuina for cervicogenic headache. Methods:A total of 480 cases of patients were randomly divided into the tuina group(the control group) and the combination of acupuncture and tuina group(the treatment group), 240 cases in each group. The control group was given routine tuina manipulation for the neck, and the treatment group was given acupuncture at Tianzhu(BL 10),Fengchi(GB 20),Jingjiaji(EXB2), Jianwaiyu(SI 14), Jianjing(GB 21), Baihui(GV 20), Taiyang(EX- HN 5) points and combined with routine tuina manipulation for the neck. The pain was evaluated by Visual Analogue Scale(VAS),the levels of interleukin-6(IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) in serum as well as the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors(PPARα,PPARβ/δ and PPARγ) in plasma were detected, and the clinical effect in the two groups was compared. Results:The cure rate was 25.42% in the treatment group and 12.51% in the control group, the difference being significant(P<0.05); the total effective rate was 92.50% in the treatment group, higher than that of 77.50% in the control group, the difference being significant(P<0.05). After treatment, the VAS scores in the two groups were improved when compared with those before treatment, and there was significant difference being found in the comparison of the VAS scores between the two groups(P<0.05). After treatment, the levels of IL-6 and TNF-α in the two groups were improved when compared with those before treatment(P< 0.05); there was significant difference being found in the comparison of the levels of IL- 6 and TNF- α between the two groups(P<0.05). After treatment, the levels of PPARα,PPARβ/δ and PPARγ were decreased when compared with those before treatment, and the levels in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group(P<0.05). Conclusion: Acupuncture combined with tuina for cervicogenic headache has better clinical effect, which can significantly improve pain in patients.
