Abstract：By searching domestic literatures in recent ten years on CNKI and Wanfang databases，the research progress of application of Chinese medicine in treating sepsis complicated with gastrointestinal dysfunction has been briefly reviewed. The pathogenesis of sepsis complicated with gastrointestinal dysfunction includes deficiency and excess；the latter includes heat，toxin，phlegm and stasis，and the former includes deficiency of qi，blood and yin and yang. The internal treatment method is mainly to purge， covering nourishing yin and unblocking collaterals， tonifying qi， regulating the spleen and stomach as well as the ascending and descending. The external treatment is mainly Chinese medicine enema and acupuncture，supplemented by moxibustion and point application. Chinese medicine can improve the clinical effect of sepsis complicated with gastrointestinal dysfunction.
