Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of Gushukang capsules combined with alfacalcidol for senile osteoporosis. Methods:A total of 96 cases of senile patients with osteoporosis were selected and divided into the control group and the observation group according to the random number table method,48 cases in each group. The control group was treated with alfacalcidol, and the observation group was additionally treated with Gushukang capsules based on the treatment of the control group. Both groups were treated for six months. The clinical effect in the two groups was compared; bone mineral density and the levels of osteoprotegerin(OPG) and bone morphogenetic protein-2(BMP-2) in serum before and after treatment in the two groups were compared; the incidence of adverse reactions in the two groups was recorded. Results:The total effective rate was 95.83% in the observation group,higher than that of 83.33% in the control group(P< 0.05). After treatment, the bone mineral density of greater trochanter, L1~4 and neck of femur in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.05), and the above bone mineral density in the observation group was higher than that in the control group(P<0.05);the levels of OPG and BMP- 2 in serum in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.05),and the above levels in the observation group were higher than those in the control group(P<0.05). The incidence of adverse reactions was 14.58% in the observation group and 8.33% in the control group, there being no significant difference(P>0.05). Conclusion: The therapy of Gushukang capsules combined with alfacalcidol for senile osteoporosis can effectively improve their bone mineral density and levels of OPG and BMP-2 in serum with high safety,whose curative effect is better than that of simple alfacalcidol.
