Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of Shuangjie Tongsheng tang combined with western medicine for chronic cheilitis of spleen-stomach dampness-heat type. Methods:A total of 60 cases of patients with chronic cheilitis were selected and divided into the control group and the observation group according to the random number table method , 30 cases in each group. The control group was given routine treatment in modern medicine. The observation group was additionally given modified Shuangjie Tongsheng tang based on routine treatment. Both groups were treated for three weeks. The scores of symptoms and signs before and after treatment as well as the clinical effect in the two groups were compared; the adverse reactions and recurrence rates were observed. Results: After treatment, the scores of skin lesion area, congestion and edema, erosion with flowing water, scab area, itching and burning heat sensation, and lip activity in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.01);the above five scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(P<0.01). After three-week treatment, the total effective rate was 96.67% in the observation group and 56.67% in the control group, the difference being significant(P<0.05). No adverse reactions occurred in the two groups. After three-week treatment, the cured patients were followed up for three months. There were three cases of relapse in the control group, with a recurrence rate of 50%,and one case in the observation group, with a recurrence rate of 5%. The recurrence rate in the observation group was lower than that in the control group(P<0.05),the difference being significant. Conclusion: Based on western medicine treatment, the additional application of Shuangjie Tongsheng tang for chronic cheilitis of spleen-stomach dampness-heat type has significant curative effect, good safety and low recurrence rate, and improves the durability and stability of the curative effect.
