Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of the therapy of abdominal massage combined with modified Runbian tang on senile constipation. Methods:A total of 80 patients with senile constipation were selected and divided into Group A and Group B according to different treatment schemes,40 cases in each group. Group A was treated with modified Runbian tang, and Group B was additionally treated with abdominal massage based on the treatment of Group A. Both groups were treated for two weeks. The scores of defecation interval, the scores of fecal properties, the scores of difficulty in defecation, clinical effect and poor initial defecation(forced defecation, dry stools, feeling of exhaustion and obstruction) after treatment were compared between the two groups. Results:After treatment, the scores of defecation interval, fecal properties and difficulty in defecation in Group B were all lower than those in Group A(P<0.05). The total effective rate was 92.50% in Group B,higher than that of 75.00% in Group A(P<0.05). The incidence of poor initial defecation after treatment was 10.00% in Group B,lower than that of 30.00% in Group A(P<0.05). Conclusion:The therapy of abdominal massage combined with modified Runbian tang can effectively relieve constipation symptoms of patients.
