Abstract：After inheriting and developing Academician DONG Jianhua's theory of unblocking and purging，Prof. TANG Xudong combined with the etiology， pathogenesis and course of chronic atrophic gastritis in clinical work， and treated atrophic gastritis with the method of unblocking and purging to dissolve stasis， and achieved a good effect. Prof. TANG treated the disease with the principle of promoting the descent of stomach qi to make it normalized，and taking "unblocking and purging" as the basic method of treatment. And because "illness exists for a long time will go into the collaterals" and "illness exists for a long time will result in stasis"， the method of invigorating blood and dissolving stasis is particularly important.
