Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of Tongfeng yin combined with colchicine on acute gouty arthritis (AGA). Methods:A total of 163 AGA patients were selected and randomly divided into the Tongfeng yin group(82 cases) and the control group(81 cases) according to single blind method. The Tongfeng yin group was treated with Tongfeng yin combined with colchicine, while the control group was treated with colchicine only. Both groups were treated for one week. The Chinese medicine syndrome scores, the levels of xanthine oxidase(XOD),blood uric acid(BUA) and the levels of serum interleukin(IL)- 1β, IL- 6 and IL- 8 were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. Clinical effect and adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results: After treatment, the scores of joint pain, joint swelling, vexation, fever and thirst, and yellow urine were all decreased in both groups when compared with those before treatment(P<0.05); the above five scores in the Tongfeng yin group were lower than those in the control group(P<0.05). After treatment, the levels of BUA,XOD and serum IL-1β,IL-6 and IL-8 in both groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.05),and the above levels in the Tongfengyin group were lower than those in the control group(P<0.05). The total effective rate was 91.46% in the Tongfeng yin group, and was 77.78% in the control group, the difference being significant(P<0.05). During treatment, no serious adverse reactions occurred in both groups. Conclusion: The therapy of Tongfeng yin combined with colchicine in the treatment of AGA can improve the clinical effect, alleviate the clinical symptoms effectively, reduce the levels of BUA and XOD,and alleviate the inflammatory response, with high safety.
