Effect of Continuous Nursing Based on the Concept of Chinese Medicine on Cancer- Related Fatigue and Complications in Patients with Leukemia Undergoing Chemotherapy
Abstract:Objectives:To observe the effect of continuous nursing based on the concept of Chinese medicine on cancerrelated fatigue and complications in patients with leukemia undergoing chemotherapy. Methods: A total of 68 cases of patients with leukemia undergoing chemotherapy and discharged from hospital were selected and randomly divided into the study group and the control group, with 34 cases in each group. The study group was given continuous nursing plan based on the concept of Chinese medicine, and the control group was given routine nursing plan. Both groups were continuously nursed for six months. The degrees of cancer-related fatigue in the two groups were evaluated by Multidimensional Fatigue Symptom Inventory-Short Form(MFSI-SF). Before and after nursing, quality of life and health status of patients in the two groups were evaluated by the scores of Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy- General(FACT- G) and Karnofsky Performance Status(KPS). During nursing, the incidences of complications in the two groups were observed, compared, and analyzed. Results: After nursing intervention, the scores of general fatigue, physical fatigue, psychological fatigue, emotional fatigue and the total score in the study group were lower than those in the control group, and the score of vitality was higher than that in the control group, differences being significant(P<0.05). Before nursing, there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of the scores of FACT-G and KPS between the two groups(P>0.05). After nursing, the scores of FACT-G and KPS in the two groups were increased when compared with those before nursing(P<0.05),and the scores of FACT- G and KPS in the study group were higher than those in the control group(P<0.05). During treatment, the incidence of complications such as oral infection, gastrointestinal reaction and skin infection in the study group was lower than that in the control group, the difference being significant(P<0.05);there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of the incidence of bleeding and phlebitis between the two groups(P>0.05). Conclusion: The continuous nursing based on the concept of Chinese medicine can effectively alleviate the degree of cancer- related fatigue of patients with leukemia undergoing chemotherapy, improve their quality of life, and effectively reduce the incidence of complications such as oral infection, gastrointestinal reaction and skin infection.
