Abstract：Objective：To observe the clinical effect of Gancao Renshen tang combined with western medicine for acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding in senile patients. Methods： A total of 80 cases of senile patients with acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding were selected and divided into the treatment group and the control group according to random number table method， with 40 cases in each group. The control group was treated with carbosulfan sodium injection and famotidine injection，and the treatment group was additionally treated with Gancao Renshen tang based on the treatment of the control group. Both groups were treated for three days. The clinical effects，hemostasis time，the time to attine stable blood pressure and the remission time of abdominal pain were compared between the two groups. Before and after treatment，Chinese medicine syndrome scores，hemoglobin levels，and pH values of fasting gastric juice were compared between the two groups. Results：The total effective rate was 95.00% in the treatment group，higher than that of 80.00% in the control group(P＜0.05). After treatment， Chinese medicien syndrome scores in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)， and the score in the treatment group was lower than that in the control group(P＜0.05). Hemostasis time，the time to attain stable blood pressure and the remission time of abdominal pain in the treatment group were shorter than those in the control group(P＜0.05). After treatment，hemoglobin levels and pH values of fasting gastric juice in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)；the above level and value in the treatment group were higher than those in the control group(P＜0.05). Conclusion：For senile patients with acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding，the therapy of Gancao Renshen tang combined with western medicine can effectively relieve their clinical symptoms，accelerate hemostasis，stabilize the blood pressure and enhance hemoglobin level and pH value of gastric juice.
