Abstract：Objective：To observe the clinical effect of phonophoresis of Huatan Tongluo tang on patients with stage-Ⅰ shoulder pain after ischemic stroke. Methods：A total of 100 patients with stage-Ⅰ shoulder pain after ischemic stroke were selected and divided into the control group and the observation group by random number table method， 50 cases in each group. The observation group was treated with phonophoresis of Huatan Tongluo tang， and the control group was treated with simple ultrasonic therapy. Both groups were treated for four weeks. The degree of shoulder pain， upper limb motor function，activities of daily living，shoulder range of motion，depression and sleep quality were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. The clinical effect in the two groups was also compared. Results：After treatment，the scores of Visual Analogue Scale(VAS)，Hamilton Depression Scale -17(HAMD-17) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI) in both groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.01)， and the above scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(P＜0.01). The scores of Fugl- Meyer Assessment Scale(FMA) and Modified Barthel Index(MBI) of upper limbs in both groups were increased when compared with those before treatment (P＜0.01)，and the above two scores in the observation group were higher than those in the control group(P＜0.01). The range of motion of shoulder in both groups was increased when respectively compared with that before treatment(P＜0.01)；the range of motion of shoulder in the observation group was increased when compared with that in the control group(P＜0.01). The markedly effective rate in the observation group was 72.00%，higher than that of 48.98% in the control group(P＜0.05). Conclusion：Phonophoresis of Huatan Tongluo tang has significant therapeutic effect on patients with stage-Ⅰ shoulder pain after ischemic stroke， which can effectively reduce the symptoms of shoulder pain， improve their upper limb motor function，activities of daily living and sleep quality，and make their mood better.
