Abstract： Objectives： To observe the clinical effect of acupuncture and moxibustion combined with auricular point pressing on postherpetic neuralgia(PHN). Methods：A total of 90 cases of PHN patients were divided into the control group and the treatment group according to the random number table method，with 45 cases in each group. The control group was given treatment for nourishing nerve， enhancing immunity， relieving pain and sedation， and the treatment group was treated with electroacupuncture， fire- needle moxibustion and auricular point pressing. Both groups were treated for one month. The Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) scores， clinical effects and recurrences in the two groups were observed and compared. Results： The total effective rate was 88.89% in the treatment group and 68.89% in the control group， the difference being significant(P＜0.05). Before treatment，there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of VAS scores between the two groups(P＞0.05). After treatment， the VAS scores in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)， and the VAS scores in the treatment group was lower than that in the control group(P＜0.05). After two-month follow-up，the recurrence rate was 5.00% in the treatment group，and 25.81% in the control group， there being no significance in the difference.(P＞0.05). Conclusion： Chinese medicine acupuncture and moxibustion for patients with PHN can relieve neuralgia，improve curative effect and reduce recurrence rate.
