Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of the therapy of heat- sensitive moxibustion combined with point tuina on lumbar disc herniation. Methods:A total of 74 patients with lumbar disc herniation were divided into the study group and the control group according to the random number table method, with 37 cases in each group. The control group was treated with routine symptomatic treatment, and the study group was additionally treated with heat- sensitive moxibustion combined with point tuina based on the treatment of the control group. The clinical effects in the two groups were compared. Before and after treatment, the lumbar function and pain in the two groups were evaluated by the Japanese Orthopaedic Association(JOA) Back Pain Evaluation Questionnaire and the Visual Analogue Scale(VAS), and the levels of serum interleukin- 6(IL- 6), tumor necrosis factor- α(TNF- α) and monocyte chemoattractant protein- 1(MCP- 1) were detected. Results: The total effective rate was 97.30% in the study group, higher than that of 83.78% in the control group, the difference being significant(P<0.05). Before treatment, there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of the scores of JOA and VAS between the two groups(P>0.05). After treatment, the JOA scores in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment, and the JOA score in the study group was higher than that in the control group(P<0.05); the VAS scores in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment, and the VAS score in the study group was lower than that in the control group(P<0.05). Before treatment, there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of levels of serum IL-6,TNF-α and MCP-1 between the two groups(P> 0.05). After treatment, the levels of serum IL- 6, TNF- α and MCP- 1 in the two groups were lower than those before treatment, and the above levels in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, differences being significant(P<0.05). Conclusion:The therapy of heat- sensitive moxibustion combined with point tuina has a good curative effect on patients with lumbar disc herniation, which can effectively relieve pain, restore the lumbar function and reduce the inflammatory responses.
