Abstract:This paper introduces the clinical experience of Prof. XU Fuye in treating irritable bowel syndrome of diarrhea type from both dynamic and static aspects. Prof. XU believes that the pathogenesis of the disease is characterized by dual onset of stomach and intestine, intermingled deficiency and excess, and qi obstruction and dampness stagnation, which is the disharmony of “dynamic and static aspects”. The key to the diagnosis and treatment is “treating from both dynamic and static aspects”,and following the principles of fortifying the spleen and tonifying qi to treat the stomach and intestine simultaneously, combining tonifying and regulating qi together to achieve a better effect, harmonizing the dynamic and static aspects to reach a balanced state, regulating and treating the disease at different stages to prevent recurrence. It is also important to properly use the “dynamic Chinese medicine” (acrid herbs and herbs for dissipating, draining, promoting urination, clearing heat and resolving toxins, invigorating blood and dissolving stasis) and the “static Chinese medicine” (sour herbs, astringent herbs and herbs for warming, supplementing, nourishing) according to the changes of patients’ condition.
