Abstract： Objective： To observe the clinical effect of the therapy of Huolong moxibustion combined with wrist- ankle acupuncture on lumbar disc herniation(LDH) of cold-dampness obstruction type. Methods：A total of 82 patients with LDH of cold-dampness obstruction type were selected and divided into the observation group and the control group according to the random number table method， with 41 cases in each group. The control group was treated with lumbar vertebrae traction combined with functional exercise，and the observation group was additionally treated with Huolong moxibustion combined with wrist- ankle acupuncture based on the treatment of the control group. Both groups were treated for two weeks. The clinical effects in the two groups were observed. Before and after treatment， the changes of levels of Chinese medicine syndrome scores and serum inflammatory factors， including tumor necrosis factor- α(TNF- α)， interleukin- 6(IL- 6) and interleukin- 1β(IL- 1β) and the scores of Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) and Oswestry Disability Index(ODI) in the two groups were compared. Results： The total clinical effective rate was 97.56% in the observation group， and was 80.49% in the control group，the difference being significant(P＜0.05). After treatment，the Chinese medicine syndrome scores of low back pain，irritability，fatigue and leg pain in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment，and the above four scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group，differences being significant(P＜ 0.05). After two weeks of treatment，the levels of TNF-α，IL-6 and IL-1β in both groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment，and the above three levels in the observation group were lower than those in the control group， differences being significant(P＜0.05). After treatment，the scores of VAS and ODI in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment， and the above two scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group，differences being significant(P＜0.05). Conclusion：The therapy of Huolong moxibustion combined with wristankle acupuncture has a definite curative effect on LDH of cold- dampness obstruction type，which can relieve the clinical symptoms，improve the clinical effects，enhance the lumbar function，and reduce the degree of pain.
