Abstract：Objective：To observe the clinical effect of the therapy of Buzhong Yiqi tang and Gegen Qinlian tang combined with western medicine on the treatment of chronic colitis. Methods：A total of 92 patients with chronic colitis were selected and divided into the control group and the observation group according to the random number table method，with 46 cases in each group. The control group was given western medicine for treatment， and the observation group was additionally treated with Buzhong Yiqi tang and Gegen Qinlian tang based on the treatment of the control group. Both groups were given continuous treatment for three months. The symptom scores and levels of inflammatory factor were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. The clinical effect and incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results：After treatment，the scores of symptoms，including diarrhea，stools containing pus and blood，abdominal pain and distention，tenesmus，fever and anal burning in both groups，were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)，and the above scores of symptoms in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P＜0.05). After treatment，the levels of serum C- reactive protein(CRP)，interleukin- 6(IL- 6) and tumor necrosis factor- α (TNF- α) in both groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)， and the levels of serum CRP，IL-6 and TNF-α in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(P＜0.05). By rank sum test，the clinical effect in the observation group was better than that in the control group(P＜0.05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of nausea and vomiting， headache， rash and insomnia between the two groups(P＞0.05). Conclusion： The therapy of Buzhong Yiqi tang and Gegen Qinlian tang combined with western medicine in the treatment of chronic colitis，can effectively lessen the clinical symptoms of patients and reduce inflammation reactions，with great safety.
