Abstract： Chronic kidney insufficiency， a disease with complex pathogenesis and long course， is a common， intractable，acute and serious disease. Prof. LIU Zhilong，a famous Chinese medicine practitioner in Guangdong Province， believes that the pathogenesis of chronic kidney insufficiency is deficiency-excess complex in most cases. The deficiency of the root is the impairment and deficiency of qi，blood，yin，yang and zang-fu organs，and the excess of the branch is mainly excess pathogens，such as dampness，turbidity，toxin and stasis. In the early stage，attention should be paid to scattering wind and dissipating pathogens as well as banking up and supplementing the original qi；in the mid-term，attention should be paid to regulating the spleen and stomach as well as protecting stomach qi；in the advanced stage，attention should be paid to invigorating blood and dissolving stasis as well as directing the turbidity downward and resolving toxins. And we should make good use of the couplet medicines of Radix Astragali and Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae，Radix Cyathulae and Periostracum Cicadae as well as Semen Euryales and Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae to enhance the curative effect. In clinical practice， we should pay attention to grasping the pathogenesis of disease， diagnosing the root to treat the disease and maintaining the treatment with a certain prescription.
