Abstract:Objective:To observe the effect of acupuncture combined with rehabilitation exercise on upper limb function, pain degree and scores of Shoulder- Hand Syndrome Scale(SHSS) of patients with shoulder- hand syndrome after stroke. Methods:A total of 77 cases of patients with shoulder-hand syndrome after stroke were selected and divided into the control group and the acupuncture group according to the random number table method, with 38 and 39 cases in each group respectively. Both groups were treated with routine medication therapy;the control group was additionally given rehabilitation exercise, and the acupuncture group was additionally treated with acupuncture combined with rehabilitation exercise.Upper limbs function, pain degree and SHSS scores before and after treatment as well as clinical effects were compared between the two groups. Results:The total effective rate was 94.87% in the acupuncture group, higher than that of 81.58% in the control group, but there was no significance in the difference(P>0.05). When compared with those in the same group before treatment, scores of simplified Fugl- Meyer Assessment(FMA) for upper limb in the two groups were increased(P<0.05), scores of Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) for pain and SHSS were decreased(P<0.05). After treatment, FMA score in the acupuncture group was higher than that in the control group(P<0.05), and scores of VAS and SHSS were lower(P<0.05). Conclusion: Acupuncture combined with rehabilitation exercise can relieve clinical symptoms and pain degree of patients with shoulder-hand syndrome after stroke, and improve their upper limb function.
