Abstract： Objective： To observe the curative effect of modified Qingqi Huatan tang combined with Beimu Gualou powder for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) of Phlegm- heat obstructing the lung type complicated with pulmonary infection. Methods：A total of 168 cases of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease were divided into the control group and the observation group according to the random number table method， with 84 cases in each group (including one case lost in the control group). The control group was treated with levofloxacin lactate and sodium chloride injection，and the observation group was additionally given oral administration of modified Qingqi Huatan tang combined with Beimu Gualou powder based on the treatment of the control group. Both groups were treated for 10 days. The changes in white blood cell(WBC) count，Clinical Pulmonary Infection Score(CPIS) and indexes of lung function including forced expiratory volume in one second(FEV1) and percentage of predicted value of FEV1(FEV1%) after treatment and the clinical effects in the two groups were compared. Results：The total effective rate was 94.43% in the observation group，significantly higher than that of 84.34% in the control group，the difference being significant(P＜0.05). After treatment，the levels of WBC and CPIS in the two groups were significantly decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)，and the levels of WBC and CPIS in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(P＜0.05). After treatment，the levels of FEV1 and FEV1% in the two groups were significantly increased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)， and the levels of FEV1 and FEV1% in the observation group were higher than those in the control group(P＜0.05). The incidence of adverse reactions was 10.71% in the observation group and 8.43% in the control group，there being no significance in the difference(P＞0.05). Conclusion： Modified Qingqi Huatan tang combined with Beimu Gualou powder has a good curative effect in treating COPD of Phlegm- heat obstructing the lung type complicated with pulmonary infection，and can improve pulmonary infection and lung function without increasing adverse reactions with good safety.
