Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of Baicaoshang paste combined with intra- articular injection of sodium hyaluronate for senile knee osteoarthritis. Methods: A total of 87 cases of senile patients with knee osteoarthritis were divided into the control group and the observation group according to the random number table method, with 43 and 44 cases in each group respectively. The control group was treated with intra-articular injection of sodium hyaluronate, and the observation group was additionlly treated with Baicaoshang paste based on the treatment of the control group. Both groups were treated for six weeks. Before and after treatment, the levels of inflammatory factors and the scores of joint pain, tenderness and knee joint function in the two groups were compared. The clinical effect in the two groups was compared. Results:After treatment, the levels of tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),interleukin(IL)-1β and IL-6 in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.05), and the levels of TNF- α, IL- 1β and IL- 6 in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(P<0.05). After three and six weeks of treatment, the scores of joint pain, tenderness and Western Ontario and Mcmaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index(WOMAC) in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.05),and the scores of joint pain, tenderness and WOMAC in the observation group were lower than those in the control group at the same period(P<0.05);Knee Society Scores(KSS) in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.05),and KSS in the observation group was higher than that in the control group at the same period(P<0.05). The superior rate was 90.91% in the observation group, higher than that of 69.77% in the control group(P<0.05). Conclusion: Baicaoshang paste combined with intra- articular injection of sodium hyaluronate for senile knee osteoarthritis can reduce the levels of inflammatory factors, alleviate the pain symptoms of patients and improve their knee function.
