Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of Radix et Rhizoma Notoginseng powder in preventing venous thromboembolism(VTE) in intensive care unit(ICU) patients with coma caused by traumatic brain injury(TBI). Methods:A total of 86 cases of TBI patients in coma were selected and divided into the observation group and the control group, with 43 cases in each group. Both groups were given standardized treatment; the control group was additionally given low- molecularweight heparin calcium injection subcutaneously, and the observation group was additionally treated with Radix et Rhizoma Notoginseng powder. The indexes of coagulation function [D- Dimer(DD), prothrombin time(PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time(APTT)] before and after treatment, as well as the incidences of VTE and adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results: Before treatment, there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of levels of DD,PT,and APTT between the two groups(P>0.05). After treatment, levels of DD,PT,and APTT in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.05), but DD level in the observation groups was lower than that in the control group(P<0.05). There was no significant difference being found in the comparison of incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups(P>0.05);VTE incidence in the observation group was lower than that in the control group, the difference being significant(P<0.05). Conclusion:Radix et Rhizoma Notoginseng powder has high application value in TBI patients in coma, with a certain effect on the improvement of blood hypercoagulability, and an effective preventing effect on VTE.
