Abstract： Objective： To observe the clinical effect of the adjuvant therapy of Huayu Mingmu mixture on diabetic retinopathy(DR) and its effect on vision acuity and glucose and lipid metabolism in patients. Methods：A total of 92 patients with DR were divided into the treatment group and the control group according to the random number table method，with 46 cases in each group. The control group was treated with calcium dobesilate capsules based on the routine hypoglycemic， anti- hypertensive and lipid- lowering treatments， and the treatment group was additionally treated with Huayu Mingmu mixture based on the treatment of the control group. The changes of glucose and lipid metabolism， visual acuity and eye condition before and after treatment were compared between the two groups， and the clinical effects and incidence of adverse reactions were analyzed. Results： The total effective rate was 95.65% in the treatment group and 80.43% in the control group，the difference being significant(P＜0.05). Before treatment，there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of levels of glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1c)，fasting blood glucose(FBG)，triglycerides(TG) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C) between the two groups(P＞0.05)；after treatment，the above four levels in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment，and the above levels in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group(P＜0.05). Before treatment，there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of visual acuity and central macular thickness between the two groups(P＞0.05). After treatment，the visual acuity and central macular thickness in both groups were improved when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)；the visual acuity in the treatment group was higher than that in the control group， there being no significance in the difference(P＞0.05)； the central macular thickness in the treatment group was lower than that in the control group，the difference being significant(P＜ 0.05). Before treatment， there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of hemangioma volume， gray value of visual field and bleeding spot area between the two groups(P＞0.05)；after treatment，the above indexes in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)，and the above indexes in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group(P＜0.05). The incidence of adverse reactions was 8.70% in the treatment group and 10.87% in the control group，there being no significance in the difference(P＞0.05). Conclusion：The therapy of Huayu Mingmu mixture assisting routine western medicine has a significant clinical effect on DR，which can effectively improve the blood glucose，regulate the level of blood lipid in the body，enhance the visual acuity in patients and improve fundus lesions， without increasing adverse reactions.
