Abstract: In Chapter 72 of Suwen, acupuncture methods of preventing and treating zang- fu organs diseases are proposed according to the theory of circuit and qi. Firstly, the injury of five-zang organs, caused by the deficient ascending and descending of dominate qi and the abnormal interaction of yin and yang, leads to a series of syndromes, which can provide reference for clinical diagnosis. Secondly, the pathogenesis of diseases and specific acupuncture methods are introduced from the aspects of the excessive or deficient ascending and descending of six qi,the failure of five- circuits qi migrating to its original position or moving to other positions, imbalance of yin and yang resulting in serious diseases in several years and deficiency of several zang organs, which is the model of the ancients to treat diseases before they arise and thus instructs us to use the acupuncture methods according to different syndromes. Thirdly,in order to strengthen the body and consolidate the foundation as well as resist the external pathogens, the acupuncture method of preserving true qi and consolidate original qi is also introduced, which has certain guiding significance for clinical point selection and collocation. Therefore, the theory can be considered to be inherited and innovatively applied in the prevention and treatment of diseases.
