Abstract： Objective： To observe the clinical effect of the therapy of Annao tablets combined with western medicine on essential hypertension. Methods： A total of 68 patients with essential hypertension were selected and divided into the observation group and the control group according to the random number table method，with 35 cases and 33 cases in each group respectively. The control group was treated with routine western medicine，and the observation group was additionally treated with Annao tablets based on the treatment of the control group. The clinical effects in the two groups were evaluated. Before and after treatment，the Chinese medicine syndrome scores，levels of blood pressure and degrees of vertigo were compared between the two groups. Results： The total effective rate was 94.29% in the observation group， higher than that of 75.76% in the control group， the difference being significant(χ 2=4.649， P＜ 0.05). Before treatment， there was no significant difference being found in the comparisons of levels of systolic blood pressure(SBP) and diastolic blood pressure(DBP) between the two groups(P＞0.05). After treatment，the levels of SBP and DBP in the two groups were lower than those before treatment(P＜0.05)； after treatment，the above two levels in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P＜0.05). Before treatment，there was no significant difference being found in the comparisons of scores of Chinese medicine syndrome and European Evaluation of Vertigo scale(EEV) between the two groups(P＞ 0.05). After treatment，the scores of Chinese medicine syndrome and EEV in the two groups were lower than those before treatment(P＜0.05)； after treatment， the above scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(P＜0.05). Conclusion：The therapy of Annao tablets combined with western medicine has a definite curative effect on vertigo symptoms of essential hypertension，which can effectively reduce the levels of blood pressure of patients，improve the clinical symptoms and signs，and reduce the degrees of vertigo.
