Abstract: Objective: To observe the curative effect of the therapy of Bushen Huoxue Tongluo tang combined with epalrestat on diabetic peripheral neuropathy(DPN). Methods:A total of 96 patients with DPN were randomly divided into the western medicine group and the Chinese and western medicine group, with 48 cases in each group. The two groups were treated with basic treatment, such as diet adjustment, appropriate exercise, and control of blood glucose. The western medicine group was additionally treated with epalrestat tablets, and the Chinese and western medicine group was additionally treated with Bushen Huoxue Tongluo tang based on the treatment of the western medicine group. Both groups were treated for 12 weeks. The scores of Chinese medicine syndromes, Toronto Clinical Scoring System(TCSS), and Michigan Diabetic Neuropathy Score(MDNS) before and after treatment and clinical effects were compared between the two groups. Results: The total effective rate was 95.83% in the Chinese and western medicine group, significantly better than that of 83.33% in the western medicine group(P<0.05). After treatment, the Chinese medicine syndrome scores of pnumbness, burning sensation, stabbing pain, and abnormal sensation of lower limbs, and the TCSS and MDNS scores in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.05);after treatment, the above scores in the Chinese and western medicine group were lower than those in the western medicine group(P<0.05). Conclusion: The therapy of Bushen Huoxue Tongluo tang combined with epalrestat has a better curative effect on patients with DPN than the simple treatment with epalrestat, which can improve the clinical symptoms and accelerate the recovery of damaged neurological function in patients.
