Abstract： Objective： To observe the clinical effect of qi- boosting and urination- promoting method combined with prednisolone tablets on macular edema(ME) after cataract. Methods： According to the random number table method，a total of 100 patients with ME after cataract emulsification were randomly divided into the observation group and the control group，with 50 cases in each group. The control group was treated with method tablets，and the observation group was additionally treated with qi-boosting and urination- promoting method based on the treatment of the control group. The treatment course of both groups was 12 weeks. The clinical effects，Chinese medicine syndrome scores，central macular thickness (CMT)， scores of visual acuity and levels of serum interleukin- 6(IL- 6) and vascular endothelial growth factors(VEGF) were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. Results： The total effective rate in the observation group was significantly higher than that in the control group(P＜0.05). After treatment， the scores of visual acuity in both groups were increased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)， and the score of visual acuity in the observation group was higher than that in the control group(P＜0.05). After treatment，Chinese medicine syndrome scores，CMT and levels of serum IL- 6 and VEGF in both groups were lower than those before treatment(P＜0.05)，and the above indexes in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(P＜0.05). Conclusion： Qi- boosting and urination- promoting method combined with prednisolone tablets can improve the visual acuity of patients with ME after cataract by reducing inflammation and edema，and its clinical effect is significant.
