Abstract：Objective：To explore the potential effects of Radix Dipsaci by comparing the differences between its ancient and modern effects. Methods：The number of Radix Dipsaci ancient prescriptions and the diseases they treated were obtained by searching the keyword “Radix Dipsaci” via Puji Prescription Database Management System. They were compared with the effects of Radix Dipsaci recorded in various herbology monographs and the 2020 edition of Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China，so as to analyse the similarities and differences between ancient and modern effects of Radix Dipsaci， and to confirm its potential effects by comparing the results of modern pharmacological and clinical studies. Results： A total of 693 prescriptions containing Radix Dipsaci were obtained from the database of Puji Prescription Database Management System，and they treated 255 diseases，which could be divided into 24 categories. After comparing with the contents recorded in Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China，six potential effects were preliminarily confirmed. Five potential effects were eventually confirmed by modern pharmacological and clinical studies. Conclusion：Radix Dipsaci has the effects of invigorating blood and dissolving stasis，resolving toxins and healing sores，dispelling wind and eliminating dampness， and calming the fetus and relieving pain，and its effect of calming the liver and extinguishing wind needs to be further verified.
