Abstract:Objective:To observe and compare the clinical effect of the therapy of moxibustion in dog days combined with moxibustion on ginger and monotherapy(moxibustion in dog days or moxibustion on ginger) on the prevention and treatment of bronchial asthma. Methods:A total of 44 patients with bronchial asthma in chronic duration or clinical remission were randomly assigned into three groups. During the dog days of 2020, fourteen patients in the integrated group were treated with moxibustion in dog days combined with moxibustion on ginger. Sixteen patients in the moxibustion in dog days group were treated with moxibustion in dog days, and fourteen cases in the moxibustion on ginger group were treated with moxibustion on ginger. All groups were treated for one course, three times being a course. Before treatment, and 16, 32, and 48 weeks after treatment, the disease control was assessed by Asthma Control Test(ACT). The eosinophil count in peripheral blood was measured before and after treatment. Results: Three cases dropped out from the experiment. Included in the statistics were 13 cases in the integrated group,15 cases in the moxibustion in dog days group and 13 cases in the moxibustion on ginger group. After one year of follow- up, there was significant significance in the annual attack of bronchial asthma before and after treatment in the moxibustion in dog days group, the difference being significant (P<0.05),but there was no significant difference in the annual attack of bronchial asthma among the three groups(P>0.05). When compared with that before treatment, the ACT score in the moxibustion in dog days group was improved from Week 32 and lasted to Week 48, differences being significant(P<0.05); the ACT score in the integrated group was improved after Week 48, the difference being significant(P< 0.05);there was no significant difference in the ACT score before and after treatment in the moxibustion on ginger group(P>0.05). After treatment, there was no significant difference in the eosinophil count in the integrated group and the moxibustion on ginger group when respectively compared with that before treatment(P>0.05);the eosinophil count in the moxibustion in dog days group was less than that before treatment, the difference being significant(P<0.05). After treatment, there was no significant difference in the eosinophil count among the three groups(P>0.05). After one year of follow- up, there was no significant difference in the annual medical expenses before and after treatment in the three groups respectively(P>0.05). There was no significant difference in the annual medical expenses among the three groups(P>0.05). Conclusion: Moxibustion in dog days can reduce asthma attack and eosinophil count in peripheral blood, which is a more effective and convenient method to treat bronchial asthma.
