Abstract：Objective：To observe the clinical effect of Bushen Guyin tang combined with metronidazole tablets for periodontal disease of vigorous fire due to kidney deficiency type. Methods：A total of 77 cases of patients with periodontal disease were divided into the observation group and the control group according to the simple randomization method，with 40 and 37 cases in each group respectively. Both groups were treated with routine local treatment; the control group was treated with metronidazole，and the observation group was treated with Bushen Guyin tang combined with metronidazole tablets. After four courses of treatment， the clinical effects were evaluated. Before and after treatment， Chinese medicine syndrome scores， plaque index(PLI)， gingival bleeding index(BI)， probing depth(PD)， attachment loss(AL)， interleukin-6(IL-6)，interleukin-1β(IL-1β)，tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and C-reactive protein(CRP) in the two groups were compared. Results：The total effective rate was 92.50% in the observation group， higher than that of 67.57% in the control group (P＜0.05). After treatment， Chinese medicine syndrome scores，PLI，BI and levels of IL-6，IL-1β，TNF-α and CRP in serum in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)， and PD and AL were shortened(P＜0.05). After treatment，Chinese medicine syndrome scores，PLI，BI and levels of IL- 6，IL-1β，TNF-α and CRP in serum in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(P＜0.05)，and PD and AL were shorter(P＜0.05). Conclusion： Bushen Guyin tang combined with metronidazole tablets has a definite curative effect in treating periodontal disease， which can effectively relieve clinical symptoms， improve periodontal status，and inhibit inflammatory responses.
