Abstract:Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of retention enema with Hongteng jian combined with antibiotics for chronic pelvic inflammatory disease(CPID) of damp- heat stagnation type. Methods:A total of 100 patients with CPID of damp-heat stagnation type were selected and arranged randomly into the control group and the observation group, and each group contained 50 cases. Two groups were given intravenous metronidazole sodium chloride and clindamycin hydrochloride for 7 days, and given oral treatment clindamycin phosphate tablets for the next 7 days. The observation group was additionally treated with retention enema with Hongteng decoction. Before treatment and after 14- day treatment, the Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) cores of bdominal pain, the Chinese medicine syndrome scores, and the inflammatory factors in serum including C-reactive protein(CRP),tumor necrosis factor- α(TNF-α) and interleukin-2(IL-2) in the two groups were evaluated, and the clincial effects and the incidence of adverse reactions during treatment in the two groups were compared. Results:After the treatment, the overall effective rate of the observation group was 94.0% , which was significantly better than that of the control group(74.0% ) (P< 0.05). The VAS scores of abdominal pain and the total Chinese medicine syndrome scores in two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.05), and the VAS score of abdominal pain and total Chinese medicine syndrome score in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, differences being significant(P<0.05). The serum TNF- α and CRP level in both groups decreased significantly compared with those before treatment, while IL-2 level increased significantly(P< 0.05). In the observation group, the levels of serum inflammatory factors TNF-α,CRP and IL-2 improved significantly better than those in the control group(P<0.05). Adverse reactions were observed in both groups and the incidence was comparable(P>0.05). Conclusion: Retention enema with Hongteng decoction combined with antibiotics could improve clinical effect, and effectively relieve symptoms and inflammatory responses with good safety for the treatment of CPID with damp-heat stagnation type.
