Abstract：Objective：To observe the clinical effect of the therapy of Shugan Jieyu tang combined with paroxetine hydrochloride on postpartum depression(PD). Methods：A total of 116 PD patients were selected for retrospective study， and divided into the control group and the study group according to different treatment methods， with 58 cases in each group. The control group was treated with paroxetine hydrochloride，and the study group was additionally treated with Shugan Jieyu tang based on the treatment of the control group. The treatment course of both groups was six weeks，and the changes in the scores of Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD)，clinical effects and incidence of adverse reactions in both groups were observed and compared. Results：The total effective rate was 91.4% in the study group and 79.3% in the control group， the difference being significant(P＜0.05). Before treatment， there was no significant difference in HAMD score between the two groups(P＞0.05). After two，four and six weeks of treatment， the HAMD scores in both groups showed a downward trend and were significantly decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)；the HAMD score in the study group was lower than that in the control group at the same time point(P＜0.05). The incidence of adverse reactions was 6.9% in the study group and 39.7% in the control group， the difference being significant(P＜0.05). Conclusion： The therapy of Shugan Jieyu tang combined with paroxetine hydrochloride for PD can significantly reduce depressive symptoms，improve clinical effect and reduce the incidence of adverse reactions.
